Lafayette Parish Area-Wide Drainage Study & Pan

Project Location: Lafayette Parish, LA

Project Summary

McBade Engineers & Consultants, L.L.C. has been contracted as a sub-consultant to JESCO for the Lafayette Parish Area-wide Drainage Study. The Parish of Lafayette Louisiana has seen an increase in drainage issues over the past few years, resulting in street flooding, road, school and business closures, channel bank erosion, pavement degradation and failures and an increase in rising water level encroachments on residential structures.  The area is experiencing tremendous growth.  Currently, the Parish and the Cities within the Parish use Lafayette Parish Subdivision and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) regulations and requirements for drainage design of new infrastructure.  The Parish and local cities implement routine maintenance of the current infrastructure but there is no Parish/area-wide storm water management plan that identifies the major “problem areas and/or choke points” or identifies capital improvement projects that are needed to address the issues.

The Cities of Youngsville, Carencro, Broussard, Scott, Duson and Lafayette as well as the Parish of Lafayette desire to develop an area-wide plan that identifies a capital improvement plan to address the major drainage issues within the Parish.  Each of the cities has a drainage study, model and/or capital improvements identified for their particular city area.  The goal of this task order is to review the drainage models, studies and/or plans for each City and to develop a prioritized capital improvement plan that the parish and cities collectively can use to apply for funding for the projects and as a guide to implement the projects as well as identify maintenance and erosion and sediment control best practices and solutions to maximize channel stabilization.
